Game 000826-06
Werner Dupont (B) versus Yoshi Ikkai
(J)
GIPF World Championship, round 7
MSO 4, Alexandra Palace, London, August 26, 2000
Description: a true final!
Both players open with 4 GIPF-pieces each (i.e. carefully). Yoshi
looks to have a better start, but Werner takes over. He goes in
the lead but loses his position through it; Yoshi takes advantage
of his numerical preponderance and levels the score. Werner, still
in defence at that moment, fights himself a way back into the game
and even claims the upper-hand again. Yoshi does exactly the same
(See 22…h5 and corresponding diagram); he goes a one piece behind,
yes, but gets back into an attacking position through forcing Werner
to remove his last but one GIPF. From then on, Yoshi gets more and
more in control; he focuses his play on the central spot and eventually
makes Werner running out of pieces in a very efficient way… You
won't see many better games than this one (that is, for the time
being and with 25 minutes per player!).
