MSO London takes place!

The good news has just been announced: there will be again a MSO in London this summer. The details of the revenue are not known yet, but the dates are: from August 18th until August 27th. In a day or 10 the complete program will be announced, together with the location where the event will take place.
Those who are as jubilant as we are and are looking forward to playing GIPF and/or ZÈRTZ in the exciting context of the MSO as much as we do, may start counting down. The second GIPF WC is planned to take place on Saturday, August 25, and the first ZÈRTZ Olympiad Championship is planned to take place on Sunday, August 26. A confirmation of these dates will be published right here as soon as we get a confirmation from the organizers in London, together with the tournament schedules and regulations. That's it for the moment. Soon more!

Results GIPF & ZERTZ ranking tournaments in "Leuven"
The first ZÈRTZ tournament is history - and a fine event it was, perfectly oragnized by Christof Nuyttens and Nico Foque. Eighteen players at the start, amongst who a certain Nadine Van Laer. With 6 straight wins she made favorites like Stephen Tavener, Jix Demerco and Fred Kok bite the dust. If you don't believe it, then check out the complete
results .
Since it concerned the very first ZÈRTZ ranking event, it was also a kind of test and ZÈRTZ appeared to do well as a tournament game. Afterwards the reactions were very positive, so more tournaments will follow. 7 minutes per player/game may have been a bit short, but, on the other hand, ZÈRTZ is a fast game and as such it fits well in a tight schedule: you play it as waiting in ambush and when you get a chance, you jump up and "chop", and you think: next game!
In the afternoon the second heat of the GIPF Regularity Contest 2001 took place. 24 players had registered, 22 of them showed up. So, here, too, a fine total of participants. Werner Dupont seemed to have become more and more laid back as a gipfer. Was it a diversionary tactic? Any way: he struck! Read about it in the tounament report.

Standings GRC 2001
Two heats of the GIPF Regularity Contest 2001 have been played yet, two more to go. The date of the third heat hasn't been fixed yet (probably at the end of September in Antwerp), the fourth will take place on Sunday, November 4, during "het Spellenspektakel" in Eindhoven. Then we'll know the winner of GRC 2001, i.e. the player with the best 3 results. The standings after two heats are:

ZÈRTZ e-mail tournament
Jeroen Weyn announced that he's planning a ZÈRTZ e-mail tournament. It won't be for tomorrow (first exams, then vacation), but by the beginning of September everything should be ready to let the competition start. In due time you'll be informed about the format and the tournament regulations. Players who are interested can already claim a spot: jeroenweyn@excite.com. In the mean time you can start practising your e-ZÈRTZ on Richard's PBeM server (and e-GIPF too, if you would prefer that).
