A winner from Germany...

Apart from Yoshi Ikkai - a Japanese phenomenon that already won 3 major GIPF titles - all the winners of Project GIPF ranking events came from either Belgium or The Netherlands. That has changed. Michaels Reitz (D) is one of the persons who cracked the edge positions of the 37 rings board and, by doing so, lifted the level of play a few steps higher. He had already won the ZÈRTZ e-mail tournament on Richard's PBeM server, but that wasn't a ranking event - and he always came a bit short when playing in real time. This time, in Leuven, Michael lived up to his status: he won 6 out of 7 games and grabbed his first *real* title convincingly. The Belgians battled for the places 2 to 8...
